Eric Spaceship

A versatile and eclectic dj, Eric Spaceship’s sets feature sounds ranging from smooth and funky downtempo to progressive house all the way into slamming psybreaks and trance. He strives to feature music that offers a different perspective on psytrance; music that hybridizes styles, that is musically compelling and infectiously groove-laden.

Eric’s background in music is impressive. A student of classical and jazz guitar as a child, Eric Spaceship spent his high-school years performing in bands and learning MIDI production and 4-track recording. Gravitating towards industrial and new wave music early on, Eric first explored the nascent rave scene of the early 90s after moving to Austin, TX, where he gravitated towards trip-hop and breaks. Acquiring the inevitable set of turntables a few years later, he started to accumulate vinyl in various styles... until psytrance unrelentingly grabbed his attention in 1998.

Eric credits San Francisco’s Dylalien with first exposing him to psytrance during a visit West, and a subsequent trip to Nevada’s Burningman festival in 1998 cemented his passion for the obscure and powerful style. Shortly after, he fell in with Dr. No, Eckoe, and Krelm of the legendary Texaliens crew and began polishing his sklls playing for the throngs at their frequent renegade parties and all-nighters. Residencies at the Zen and DownTemple weeklies followed, as did appearances around the state and at regional festivals.

Relocating to Boston in the Spring of 2003 to attend Berklee College of Music, Eric Spaceship fell in with the thriving Sonic Beating and Changmian crews, becoming a regular at Anitya and Psyforia. Having graduated with a degree in Music Production and Engineering in 2005. Eric now works as a freelance recording engineer and producer in Los Angeles, craftily imbuing the infectious and mind-bending qualities of the music he loves into the work of his clients…
